Her and Melena could have gone to school together, but had never really been friends before, and now they're going to the same stables and they ride together and become friends? Melena's pretty random and fun as well, so they could be like, party friends, too, heh ;3
I'm open for other things, though; that was just the first thing that came to mind for me since there's only a year age difference.
