Jamie 1 Jamie 2 Jamie 3 Jamie 4 Jamie 5
Full Name: James Antonio Rowan
Nicknames: Jamie, Lil’ Bit
Age: 19
Gender: Male
Riding Level: Advanced
Appearance: Jamie Rowan is not a person you’d think of when you hear the term ‘horseback-rider’. With his hair done in dreadlocks down past his shoulders, more piercings and tattoos than one could count, and his short, slightly stocky and muscular body, toned from working out and exercising daily... you’d think he were the type of guy who was always coming in late and getting into dealings that were better left alone. The idea that he’d be a near perfect son, loving older brother, adored grandchild, and avid horseback-rider would be laughable at best... yet he is.
Jamie isn’t just your average nineteen year old. For one, how many ‘average’ teenagers do you see going around wearing their hair in dreadlocks? How many ‘average’ teens have hat fetishes, tattoo obsessions, and enjoy seeing how many ‘decorations’ they can put in their body? Not many...
As said before, Jamie is short... he barely hits 5”5 in height, though what he lacks in the height department he makes up for with his stockiness and well-toned body, which is, as also said before, a result of working out and exercising daily as well as keeping up with a healthy diet.
Jamie has a naturally tanned complexion with sharper features... his deep liquid brown eyes and hair show proof to his Mexican heritage, courtesy of his mother, Rosa Rowan nee Herrera. However, for all of his Mexican heritage, Jamie looks more like his American father (Jeffrey Rowan) while his younger twin siblings (Carlos and Katie Rowan) show their Mexican heritage much more. Jamie wears contacts, though, and he likes to play around with the colored contacts, so sometimes he may have green eyes one day, blue eyes the next, and by the end of the week he’ll be back to brown...
As far as clothes go, we’ve already established that James has a hat fetish... honestly, the word ‘fetish’ doesn’t quite cut it. Jamie is obsessed with hats and bandana’s, moreso than he is with tattoos and piercings. He doesn’t even know how many he owns, what colors, or what type. When asked, he’d probably just shrug and say ‘a lot’. Jamie can’t go to a clothing store without leaving with at least one hat, normally more. Usually, any time he goes out he’s wearing some sort of hat or bandana... and if he’s not, it’s because he’s pulled his dreadlocks up into a ponytail or something.
Jamie has a wild style of clothes and is always adding more to his crazy wardrobe as he believes that a person can never have too many clothes. He loves sleeveless shirts, whether they’re tight or not, it doesn’t matter. Hoodies, long-sleeved shirt... whatever, he’ll wear them all. Most of the time he wears really baggy jeans or cargo pants that absolutely must be held up by a belt. Chains are normally present on his jeans, usually hanging from his belt-loops and items such as fingerless gloves, armbands, and random bracelets are a must-have. As far as shoes go, most of the time he wears skate shoes or boots, depending on what he’s wearing. The colors black and white are the most prominent in his closet.
He does, however, have proper riding clothes. In fact, Jamie has a whole other closet full of English attire and Western attire. He owns about fifty pairs of jeans and riding breeches alike, a good ten pairs of chaps for western riding, many pairs of half-chaps, about seven pairs of riding boots including four pairs of cowboy boots, multiple show coats and shirts, riding gloves, helmets (not that he ever wears them), paddock boots, top hats, cowboy hats, flannel shirts, etcetera... As mentioned before, he likes clothes.
As far as his other two ‘obsessions’ go... Jamie hasn’t quite turned his body into a pincushion yet. He only has his lip pierced, his ears gauged, and both nipples pierced. His tattoos, on the other hand... As of now, he isn’t quite sure how many he has, though if he had to guess, he’d say somewhere in the twenties.
General Personality: Jamie is, overall, a very nice person... though not many people tend to understand that because sometimes he can appear very intimidating and unapproachable due to his looks. He smiles easily and nearly always has a grin of some sort of his face, whether it be crafty, fun, sneaky, or mischievous
He’s not normally accident-prone, but he does have his days when nothing seems to go right. Usually, on these days, he’s snappish, aggressive, and tends to keep to himself. Jamie tends to lean towards the lighter side of life... his motto being ‘have fun while it lasts, life is too short to take for granted’.
He’s an accomplished rider, something that he’s extremely proud of, but doesn’t flaunt it. He likes to help others and is usually tolerant, though he can be a touch impatient at times. Jamie’s very adaptable to people and places and he has an ‘adventurous’ side that tends to show itself at all the wrong moments and then some. He’s agnostic, as he doesn’t believe in religion.
Jamie’s generally a pretty agreeable guy unless he just absolutely does not think it’s ‘right’... then he can be the most persuasive arguer a person’s ever seen, but other times he tends to just state his opinion and let it go. He’s ambitious, though it doesn’t seem like it at times, as he enjoys living ‘in the now’. He likes to make his friends laugh and he likes to laugh. He also enjoys practical jokes... or any type of joke, really.
He’s appreciative of what he has, though he never lets it get to his head and he’s never looked down on people. Approachable he may be, but, as mentioned before, a lot of the time people tend to stay away from him just due to his looks. Jamie isn’t very ‘aristocratic’ like his mother, but he is classy in his own little way. He’s very well educated and graduated High School with all A’s; through his entire schooling, he never got below a B.
As far as creativity goes, James has it in abundance. He’s an artist and can draw amazingly well, though part of it is due to his photographic memory. His imagination is wild and he often gets caught up in his mind, thinking about the future and his role in it, or sometimes thinking up wild and fantastic scenes for movies and stuff.
He’s not really reckless, but nor is he overly careful in what he does. Sometimes he’s just so caught up in it that he doesn’t realize just how ‘dangerous’ what he’s doing could be. Jamie is cheerful and can be charismatic when he wants to be. He does have a wild, immature side and there are times that he can’t help but go along with it, even though he’s nineteen. He can be arrogant at times, but it’s not really like him to be so. He’s rather compulsive. Just like he has a wild side, Jamie also has a composed and mature side in which he’s conservative and on the quieter side, playing the proper gentleman.
Sarcasm is his friend. Jamie wouldn’t be ‘Jamie’ without his sense of humor and sarcasm. He can, at times, be defiant and a bit of a rebel, but usually he’s pretty decent. When he’s determined to do something, nothing will stop him and when he’s upset, he tends to shy away from everyone and often takes out his gelding and rides without caring how hard or fast he goes. Whenever a person finds Jamie’s horse shaking and dripping in sweat in a stall or paddock, they’ll know that he’s around somewhere and is in a very bad mood.
Thankfully he’s a forgiving person... if he wasn’t, then he’d probably have no friends! He’s very hospitable and will let anyone stay over at his place when they haven’t a place to go. Jamie is definitely not ‘innocent’ and ‘naïve’. By nature, he’s pretty inquisitive, kinda like a cat, and sometimes sticks his nose where he shouldn’t. At times he can be judgmental.
He’s not lazy, a slacker, or anything of the sort. Jamie likes having something to do, and if there’s nothing to do, then he’ll make something to do. He’s a little bit messy, but isn’t virtually every guy a little on the messy side? He’s observant and obsessive to the point of scary over certain things, but he’s very open-minded. He tries to be optimistic, though sometimes it backfires and he just can’t be. Due to the fact that Jamie spent so many summers and the last year and a half in Mexico, he speaks Spanish fluently and his English is accented.
History: “Congratulations Mr. and Mrs. Rowan, it’s a healthy boy. Do you already have a name picked out?” The exhausted beauty known as Mrs. Rosa Rowan shared a look with her husband and nodded. “His name is... James Antonio Rowan.” That was all that was said before the squalling baby boy was taken out of the room.
James Antonio Rowan came into the world the usual way. He was born April 3rd in Cayucos, California to two parents and left the hospital with two parents... but that was where his similarities to other infants ended. James Antonio Rowan was born rich... not just rich, but filthy rich. He also happened to be Mexican American.
His childhood was... eventful. James, or ‘Jamie’ as his father called him grew up in what could only be called a mansion on many acres of land. His father was hardly ever home, as he chased racehorses like a teenager in love, and his mother doted on him day and night. When James turned three, his mother placed him in riding lessons, remembering the ‘old days’ when she used to ride with her papa. She decided that, starting that very summer, Jamie would begin spending every summer in Mexico with his grandparents, where her dad still owned the cattle ranch he’d owned in her childhood.
“Abuelo! Abuelo!” The three year olds voice shrieked through the house as he searched for his grandfather. Upon finding him, Jamie grabbed the old mans’ hand. “Abuelo, ir a montar caballo?” He asked in stilted Spanish. The old man laughed and picked the boy up, bouncing him on his knee. “Por que, little senor, why do you want?” The little boy wigged out of his grandfather’s lap. “I wanna be ‘vaquero’ like you, Abuelo!” The old man laughed again and stood from his chair, motioning for his grandson to follow him.
Every year from the time that Jamie was three year old, he spent every summer in Mexico riding horses and learning the history of his heritage and the vaquero’s. He mad fast friends with Jose Cabano during his twelfth year and the two youngsters became inseparable during the summers. Jose gave Jamie the nickname ‘Lil’ Bit when it became apparent that Jamie was stuck at only five feet five inches in height.
“James! Hijo!” “In the living room, madre!” Fourteen year old Jamie glanced up just in time to catch his mother as she wrapped her arms around his neck. Startled, he became still for a moment before placing his arms around her and hugging her back. “What is it, madre?” “Yo soy embarazada!”
Yep, pregnant. Rosa Rowan was pregnant... with twins. Jamie, at first, wasn’t sure to be excited or not. When the babes were born, though, he loved them immediately. Carlos and Katie Rowan were beautiful infants... but they were loud. Jamie took to traveling with his father whenever his dad went on his ‘horse chasing’ trips across the land.
It was on one of these trips that Jamie found the horse that he knew would become his. He and his dad were visiting his dads brother in Kentucky, and the group was visiting one of the local racing and breeding farms when Jamie saw him. At the time, he was called ‘Watermarked Dash’ or ‘Dash’. He was stuck in a small stall with his entire right hind leg bandaged heavily. He was big and beautiful, and when Jamie looked at him, he saw not a lazy, injured horse but an injured and clearly unhappy horse. Amazingly, the big gelding became his with the exchange of a mere five-hundred dollars.
Roughly a year later the horse, now named ‘The Illusionist’ or ‘Diaz’ was proclaimed perfectly sound, healthy, and just as ridable as the next by the Rowan’s vet. Jamie’s father sent for his brother to come and retrain the big horse, and the man, knowing of his nephew’s strange sense of humor, trained the horse in everything he could before sending for some other trainers he knew to come and work with the animal to teach the grey everything under the sun. It was costly, but it was worth it.
“Abuelo, abuela? I’m here!” James called out as he opened the door to the house and set his pack down. “Lil’ Bit!” From the kitchen came the cry, followed quickly by a tall figure racing towards him, enveloping him in a hug and speaking rapid Spanish. Jamie hugged the tall figure back before pushing him off. “Jose, les vivir aci ahora... I had forgotten! Good to see you! Where’s aduelo?” The taller of the two friends pointed in the direction of the bedroom.
After he got Diaz back from his uncle, Jamie left his hometown of Cayucos California. He was eighteen. Diaz was ridable... Jamie traveled to Mexico, where his grandfather and grandmother lived. He lived with his grandparents for a year and a summer, taking over the duties of the cattle-ranch when his grandfather became too sick to do so. Upon his grandfather’s death, his grandmother sold the ranch in pieces and opted to move in with her sister, as her own health wasn’t too good.
Jamie said his goodbye’s soon after, not wanting to stay around any longer than he had to after the ranch was gone. He packed up his things, packed up his horses things and his horse and drove out three months after his grandfathers death.
Since he wasn’t in any hurry to go home, and wanted to try his life living own his own, Jamie called his parents and told them as much. They arranged it with the bank for Jamie’s portion of their fortune to be sent to the bank wherever he decided to settle down.
