Full Name: Masako Mai Shibuya Age: Seventeen. Gender: Female. Riding Level: Beginner. Appearance:
masako shibuya was born in tokyo, japan, and sports the asian features true to her ethnicity. she has doe-like brown eyes that more or less show people what she's thinking or her emotions as if she were holding up a neon light. black hair frames her face, brushing her shoulders, and it is occasionally dyed brown non-permanantly. masako is the poster child for the stereotype of asian petiteness, being roughly five foot, two inches, and weighing only about 42 kg. (92 lbs.)
masako is true to her fashion origins. though in school she had to wear the typical uniform consisting of a white collared shirt, a tailored jacket in which her case was black with white trim, a red neck ribbon, and a black pleated skirt, masako had a sense of style. during third year of junior high, the girl had been coaxed to the Harajuku district, and was instantly hooked. the variety of styles of street clothing, cosplay, etc. captured her in a whirlwind of frills, studded belts, and platform boots.
during non-school hours, you could often see her mingling with the other participants of this style display, wearing normal street clothes, or in a costume at a gig. though she often looks...goth, shall we say, she is actually really happy and outgoing girl. she has a thing with her friends in one of the branches of the Hello! Project where they put an index finger on there cheek, a trademark for that particular musical group. some people think she looks way younger than she actually is. General Personality:
this girl has a thing for harajuku/street style, music, dancing, lolita clothing, singing, writing, sketching, animals, and cute stuff. don't get her started on the cute stuff, because she could drag you off to the nearest computer and show you just was she labels as 'kawaii.' the things she most hated were alcohol, drugs, cockroaches, school, animal abuse/neglect, racism, and concieted jerk. though you wouldn't know from watching tapes of her stage performances and interviews from when she was a part of the Hello! Project, she can be extremely shy.
other weaknesses are anything related to horses, as she just got into them when moving to America, math, being stereotyped as 'goth,' and she can be too loud and outgoing to some people. she also doesn't like to give advice or go to school, and has a really heavy japanese accent, and sometimes forgets the english language.
masako is considered pretty loud, weird, and flashy girl in america, but she was actually pretty normal in tokyo. she almost always has a smile for anyone, and people often go to her for advice. since she's not able to control her expression, people find that it's easier to like her because they don't have to flail pathetically while trying to find a reaction. masako doesn't really like that she's an open book, because guys used to tease her for it. maturing dramatically in her second year of high school, she toned down on the hyperness and tried to keep her mind open rather than speaking before thinking and being hypocritical.
if there's a situation that calls for it, she will go into serious mode, and you can watch as her emotions dilute and an uncharacteristic calmness sets over her. actually, she has trained herself to remain bubbly as much as possible because of her constant performances at a small concert stadium where she participated in weekly shows. these shows had required her to look preppy and happy, the typical of most J-POP all female bands, when they sang and danced. honestly, it's a miracle she's made it this far into high school, because the only thing she gets top scores in is physical education.
History:
a tiny, shrieking baby girl by the name of masako mai shibuya was delivered without difficulty in a small hospital within the monstrous layout of tokyo, japan on august twenty-fifth. this was the second and last child to Mr. and Mrs. Shibuya, the first was a son, who at this time was four years old, and named Yukio. a perfectly healthy, normal child was hurried to the family's three bedroom flat. growing up, the mr. and mrs. constantly flaunted their adorable little son and daughter. hello there! look at my kids! this phrase was used on a daily basis whenever they went out, and the toddler masako drank it all in.
when she was in what people in the u.s. would call elementary school, she was a happy camper. entering the choir, she used her adolescent soprano to perform with her fellow students. the horrible news of her mother's murder reached her during one of the choral practices. one of the educational staff entered the class room, called her out into the hall, and broke the news. the eleven year old was devastated into silence, plump tears sliding lethargically down cheeks as she was escorted to the office, where her father and older brother waited.
the family couldn't believe this loss; who had taken the beautiful, cheerful, brilliant Midori's life? their heartwrenching wondering were soon answered as the detectives arrested Yoshi Takahashi, who was also wanted for multiple other murders. this closure settled on the family, giving them a strange peace that balanced precariously, just waiting to shatter. a year of mourning, depression, and seclusion passed before they launched back into their daily lives. the women they had all known and loved would not have wanted their lives to be ruined just because of her.
masako was soon back to her bubbly, cheerful self in no time, though it faltered when confronted with the sympathetic stares and pity of her class mates. when she entered junior high, she was fully acknowledged as a singer, and thrown into an audition for the Hello! Project. after weeks of trials, she was accepted and put into a large group of forty-eight girls seperated into group A, B, and C. after performing with them for a year or so, she was transferred, along with two other girls, into a new project called Buono! this was a success, and they gained fame in the J-POP scene. around this time, she had entered her style of clothing and gained new friends, all while balancing her career.
it's a wonder how she passed each school year. the only classes she got top scores in was physical education and vocal studies. otherwise, she had average scores, but barely scraped by in math and english. little did she know, masako would wish she had studied harder and passed that class with flying colors. in april, her father and brother sent her in a tailspin. they were moving. to the united states of america. in june. so, with this news, she began the tedious work of packing her belongings, tearful goodbyes with her friends, quitting Buono! with the promise that she could return when she was older, and preparing herself for the move.
mr. shibuya and her brother, Yukio, who had both become exceedingly successful in the business world, had both became partners with an american company, and were required to be located on the east coast of the u.s. after one last look of her home country, japan, masako shuffled onto a plane, and said goodbye to her old life.
landing in washington d.c., they were greeted by a man who escorted them to their new home in the surrounding area. masako was astounded by this country! the driver's drive on the right, instead of the left! that was so bizarre to her. a small manor was the Shibuya family's new haunt, and they settled in. still not unpacked, the jet lagged masako surfed the web groggily, listening to the Kiddies. installing a program to translate everything into kanji, she saw an ad for an equine sale website.
deciding to look into it, because she'd always adored horses and refused to eat the sushi containing horse flesh, she was instantly latched onto the idea. researching horses, she gathered enough information so she was confident on what type of horse she should buy. entering in her requirements and scanning through the candidates, she discovered what seemed to be the perfect horse to get started with. a ten year old north american spotted draft mare, which she immediately asked her father to purchase. her wish was his command, as he wanted to do anything to get the girl to settle in to this country he was forcing her to live in. the mare was shipped to a nearby stable, and masako, her thankfully not busy twenty-one year old brother in tow, hurried to meet her.
the japanese teenager instantly fell in love with the massive equine, and it seemed the mare took a liking to her. over the next few weeks, she bonded with the mare and made the mare's name official. her name would be midnite, which derived from the name the draft was registered with. the stable owner suggested that masako go to a stable quite a distance away, which basically means a totally different state, in somewhere called Guineaville, Illinois called Riverglass Ranch.
after checking it out online, her family sent her and midnite off with the best of wishes, and a place to stay nearby the ranch, even though she heard the place was basically a ghost town. now, with her low skills in the english language and only a few weeks of horsemanship under her belt, masako will hopefully come to be at home in the u.s. at Riverglass Ranch. will you help? --------------------------------- Preferred Name: Miyabi, Yabi, Miya, or Naka(naide).
