Hey everyone! Since I'm new here, I decided to introduce myself. My name is Nicole. My favorite colors are blue and white and I own one horse... an Arabian mare named Gem. She's bay and only about 14.3 hands tall. She was given to my dad and I because her old owner wasn't taking care of her and she was almost at deaths door. She looked really horrible when we got her and was full of worms and had rainrot really bad and was seriously emaciated. now, though, Gem is back healthy and rideable. My dad also owns a horse. We just got her a few weeks ago; she's also a rescue. Our newest horse is a grey Arabian mare named Missy. She's very thin and wormy and hates being handled. She may also be in foal, we're not sure yet. She's never going to be ridden, though, because her pasterns won't hold up, according to the vet.
On a lighter note, I also own an Irish Setter dog named Buck and we have a few barncats named Tom, Roy, Moni, Prissy, and Elrod. Prissy is pregnant and is supposed to have kittens within a week or two.

Hey! I'm new too. Nicole, I think it's great that you take care of rescue horses. I unfortunately live in the city and don't have a horse. I haven't even ridden in over a year because I've been so busy and money has been tight. Once I'm done college and get a job I hope to start up again though.  |

Aw, that must not be too fun, not being able to ride. I can't ride Gem a whole lot, because her back can't hold up a lot of weight for more than a few hours... but at least I get to ride about twice a week. Bot our mares are doing very well. Missy still doesn't like being handled, but she's beginning to come 'round. We have to deworm her again tomorrow (vet's orders). I dread it... She hates being dewormed and fights us like crazy and we don't have anymore of the feed dewormer stuff (I forget what it's called) on hand at the moment. The vet is coming out in about a week to perform an ultrasound or whatever it is he does to see if she's pregnant and how far along she is. He's hoping that we can abort the foal if she isn't too far along already. He thinks that with the way her pasterns are, the extra weight of the foal will break her down completely if she actually is in foal. We don't have a clue when she would have been bred. The people we got her from had her pastured with two young stallions. I'm really hoping thgat she isn't pregnant, or if she is, I hope we can get the foal aborted because we just don't have the experience or time to deal with a colt or filly and the foal would really just be an inconvenience to my dad and me.
