Full Name: Anastasia Elisabeth Scar Age: eighteen Gender: female Riding Level: intermediate Appearance: The first thing one usually notices about Ana is the platinum streaks in her light blond hair. It looks dyed but she can truthfully say its her natural color. These corn silk locks fall thickly to the middle of her back though they almost reach her waist when she takes the time to straighten them. Her hair isn't really curly but it curls enough so that you couldn't call it wavy and you definitely couldn't call it straight. She generally tames her mane by pulling it back in a loose pony tail or a braid. Strangely enough her eyes are not the usual blue you would expect from a blond but instead are dark chocolaty brown; another reason people believe her hair is dyed. Her skin is usually light and it takes her a long time to tan but she doesn't burn either. She is not as curvy as most girls, certainly not as curvy as she would like, but she isn't flat either. Just a little under developed. Ana definitely isn't supermodel thin or overweight, shes just about average. Her super fast metabolism makes it almost impossible for her to gain weight and she has to eat more often to other people. Ana can be a bit of a tomboy, preferring jeans and tank tops to mini skirts and tight shirts. Since she spends about ninety percent of her time at the barn this actually works our rather well. General Personality: Ana has been described as many things over the years, including but not limited too; bitchy, hyper, imaginative, rebellious, adventurous, dramatic, insane, a dare devil, fearless, blunt, intelligent, a bully, and loyal. While insane might be a little far out most of the others are relatively accurate. Ana is a born leader and has issues with authority figures. Her mother taught her that just because an adult told her to do something that didn't mean she had to do it. Not that she would have anyways, its just not in her nature to follow. Ana has endless energy and tends to be extremely spontaneous, jumping at anything that sounds remotely interesting. This accounts for both her spotty Spanish and her knowledge of sign language. The only time she isn't on the move is when shes reading or writing. Being home-schooled gave her a passionate love of books and her mind is always full of things to write down. She carries a worn little notebook around with her at all times in which she jots down random notes or little stories. She has a box of full ones under her bed as well as a box of new ones. Ana has always been independent even when she was small. She is also fearless. This can be a good thing or a bad thing. With Ana its usually a bad thing. Coupled with her spontaneity it means that she often does extremely dangerous things without thinking through what would happen if her plan of action failed. She is constantly getting injured because of this. Though she is extremely intelligent and has a brilliant mind Ana hates school. Ana is extremely blunt, not much thinking of what people will think of what she says and instead just saying whatever comes to mind. She also has quite a temper and these two things combined often get in some serious trouble. While she makes a good and fiercely loyal friend her attitude sometimes scares people away. History: Born in the Blue Ridge Mountains in Virginia, Ana grew up surrounded by animals of every kind. Her mother ran a large animal rescue that specialized mostly in horses and exotic animals. Her father was a large animal vet and her older sister was a trainer by the time she was seventeen. Of course, her sister was only ten when Ana was born. Anastasia Elisabeth was named after both her grandmothers who had died before she was born. Her brother, Thomas Alexander, was named after both her grandfathers. Her older sister, Abigail, was named after her Aunt. Her parents weren't that creative with names, as you can see. Three weeks after her birth she was given into the care of Abigail for most of the day while her mother returned to work. When she was five her mother decided to take a break from the rescue, hiring someone to do her work, and home-schooled Ana and her brother Thomas. Abigail was in school already and didn't want to leave. Ana excelled at her studies when she liked the subject but otherwise she found it impossible to concentrate. Five was also the age her mother decided she should learn to ride. She had been on horses before but had never really ridden by herself.
Ana took to the saddle as if she had been born in one. She started English because it was the smallest saddle they owned but once she was big enough she moved on to Western but migrated back to English when she started jumping. After switching back and forth a few times she decided she liked English better and wanted to pursue cross country jumping. After riding the rescues and the two horses owned by her family for a while Ana decided she needed her own horse. A horse trained in cross country. So she went on a search. But she couldn't seem to find a horse that was just right. Then one day a beautiful, high strung paint mare arrived at the rescue. She had been found in a farmer's field eating his corn. Ana was ten at the time. She fell in love with the tri-colored mare immediately and took the horse's care and rehabilitation into her own hands. Of course she could not do it alone but she rarely asked for help. It turned out the mare was a excellent and well trained jumper who would sail over anything even without a rider. That's when Ana knew; this horse belonged to someone. She hadn't just appeared out of nowhere. So she began to search the internet and the papers for a missing horse ad. Right around the time she started looking she realized her beloved mare was getting fat despite the fact that she was well exercised and not overfed. Her father checked the mare and found she was pregnant.
Ana was both delighted and sad. Her favorite mare was going to have a foal but she wouldn't be able to keep it. Time passed and three weeks before the mare's due date Ana found what she was looking for; an old newspaper headlined that read "Champion Paint Mare Disappears From Breeding Farm." After that the article talked about how the mare was an excellent jumper and there was a ten thousand dollar reward for her return. A picture was also included. The picture looked exactly like Ana's mare. After looking up the farm online she called and told them she thought she had their horse. The owner was skeptical but agreed to come see if the horse really was hers. The farm was in Kentucky so they arranged for the owner to come and spend the night two weeks later. She would not bring the trailer but would return for the mare if it really belonged to her. The week passed and Ana spent as much time with her mare as possible. When the owner arrived she took one look at the mare and immediately recognized her. It was clear the mare knew her as well from the way she ran to greet her and nuzzled her pockets for treats. Of course there were papers and a vet check and a bunch of other things that had to happen to confirm the mare was the one who had been lost but they all knew she was. The owner was surprised that her mare was pregnant and when Ana told her that they had found her like that the owner decided she must have gotten in with some stallion.
The night the trainer stayed over Ana slept in the barn with the mare, both because it was so close to foaling time and because she was loaning the owner her bed. At around midnight she woke up and went to check on the mare. The second she peered over the stall door she knew labor had started. Running to the house she woke her parents and the owner and they all rushed down to watch. The labor was long and her father had to help but finally a tiny little filly slipped out onto the straw. They wiped her off and watched as she stood and wobbled to her mother. The mare promptly shoved her away and went back to eating the bran mash Ana had prepared for her. This happened four times before the filly gave up and started crying for milk. The mare pinned her ears and bared her teeth at the filly and probably would have bitten her if Ana hadn't intervened. She sheltered the filly while the owner led the mare to the next stall over. The owner said that the mare had never been bred before and was probably just one of those mares who weren't meant to be mothers. They had some frozen colostrum in the house for the foals that came in right off their dams so her mother went to get some while Ana sat with the hungry filly and cleaned her off the rest of the way. She found that the filly was completely white but for the black medicine hat markings on her head and a blurry black question mark on her back.
The owner came back the next week for her mare but she told Ana that instead of the reward money she could take the foal if she wanted. Ana readily agreed. Abigail helped Ana train the foal and when the filly showed talent for jumping Ana knew she had found her perfect match. The filly, who she named Sky, was her best friend and her partner though the pair rarely got along. Both were stubborn and belligerent and fearless making them either a complete disaster or a winning team in the show ring, depending on the mood. When Ana was fifteen she got her GED and when she was eighteen she moved to this little town and started riding at Riverglass Ranch while taking classes at the university. She hopes to become a vet.
